Reviews
Another picture book by a highly amusing author-illustrator...this is a nice look at the hard process of becoming (or at least appearing to become) unselfish. BABY MAGAZINE
Appealing for three to six year olds...with good bold pictures and a simple storyline which touches a raw nerve of childhood-siblings' birthdays. SUNDAY TELEGRAPH
At any age it is reassuring to know that worries and jealousies are not ours alone. All children under seven will understand Jake's feelings. CHILD EDUCATION
The book will delight very young readers especially the impatient. The portrayal of Jake's discomfiture is subtle, sophisticated, and easily recognisable. BOOKS FOR YOUR CHILDREN
Warm, glowing and colourful illustrations, with simple text. Useful for both story and topic work.
Rob Lewis' deliberate low key text and illustrations in no way diminish the strength of the feelings but allow us to be knowing and sympathetic observers of Jake's struggles to be nice so he doesn't spoil things for Henry. With Rob Lewis there is always a twist in the tail and the chorus of 'oh Jake!' that greeted the end of the book would surely amuse him. JS BOOKS FOR KEEPS
