When Grandpa comes to stay, Mum warns Finley to be on his best behaviour but Grandpa behaves more badly than him. Then grandpa gives Finley a lesson in fishing with a bit of cheating, and finally he cooks tea for everyone creating rather unusual omelette.

This book started out as a very minor project. Margaret Conroy, then a director of Random House Children's Books said she was looking for some UK material to complement the American 'Fox' books done by James Marshall for the Bodley Head Read Alone series. I wrote this book for it in about 1993 and forgot all about it. Then out of the blue I got a contract in 1995 after two years of sitting in somebody's drawer! It was sold so well that I went on to do the other three. Though it is currently out of print it has been my fifth most successful book.
