Friska The Sheep That was Too Small

Friska, the smallest sheep in the flock, is teased by all the other sheep. She tries to make herself look bigger - but nothing really works. Then one day a hungry wolf finds the flock, and Friska has a chance to prove that bigger isn't always better.

I loved doing this book. Again, very John Burningham. It was originally published by Macdonald in 1987 and incredibly it's still in print! It was reissued with a new cover in 1999. It was the first book to have substantial foreign editions.

Foreign Editions- USA, Japan, France, Netherlands.

Reviews

Lewis tells his simple story in an understated style with no unessential details or descriptions. This gives the story the quality of a fable. The illustrations are painted in a folk-primitive style that combiles humorous looking sheep with dramatic well designed backgrounds. Color is used effectively to reflect the action of the story. A pleasant and charming book. -SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL
